About

2017 July - Somma Wedding-675

We live a comfortable life in New England and are fortunate to have very accepting and supportive families and friends. We didn’t realize how different it is planing a vacation as a lesbian couple until we made a quick weekend getaway trip to a certain state in the south for our three year anniversary.  It wasn’t long before it became obvious to us that we were far from home. Minor PDA and hand holding between same sex couples does not receive the same reaction in some parts of the world that a heterosexual couple receives. How do we go about dealing with this? Do we avoid those areas? Do we say screw it and explore them anyway and deal with the head turning?

After our experience in a certain southern state, we went on different websites to plan for our honeymoon such as TripAdvisor and the Travel Channel in order to find lesbian friendly areas. Most of the feedback surrounding the gay community was about gay males.  Grouping lesbians into the same category as gay men for convenience and generalization is fine in certain instances but overall the lesbian and gay male communities are very different.  We hope our blog can shed some light on what it is like traveling as a lesbian couple. We want to share our experiences along the way both the good and the bad.

Between all the traveling, we also have two very active hounds named Brady and Conway.  When we spend weekends at home, we try to take them with us wherever we go, to include hiking. We are fortunate that there are many trails in Maine and the White Mountains in New Hampshire are close by.  Not all of these trails are dog friendly, and we want to shed some light on the best hiking trails in New England for dogs based on our experience.
